S is for Sydney, Sun, Sand, Sea, Surf, Splendid, Sparking, Swordfish

So many possible Ss. Today I spent my first day in Sydney. I am staying near Darling Harbour so walked past there to the bus. It is quite hard work figuring out how to navigate the spaghetti of the Sydney roads!

Then onto central quay by light rail to catch the ferry.

Massive cruise ship (with water slide and to the left of that a cinema screen!) showing how deep the harbour is.

I got on the Ferry to Manly.

I had a little walk then caught the bus to the headland. From there it was an up and down walk through a few suburban streets to the Rock Carvings near Grotto point.

Not penguin season unfortunately...

Some were really obvious, like the fish. Some were very obtuse... Like a magic eye puzzle which I failed.

Back to the bus to Manly.

I stopped for fish and chips by the Wharf. The grilled swordfish was very satisfying, but the tallow chips were amazing. Like a cross between a chip-shop-chip and a very good roasty - yummy! I also had a frozen coke to keep me going.

I walked the block across the town to the beach, which was massively busy.
Despite the crowds the sand and sea were beautiful.

I spotted some of my nemeses (I know it's not Latin but I think nemisisi is better!).

The sun was starting to fall so I headed for the ferry and had a lovely ride watching the sun slowly dip.

I got back to the quay near the Opera house whilst there was still light in the sky. Reaching the top of the Opera house steps about 5 mins before their Badu Gili presentatin began to be projected on the sails. See more here: Badu Gili: Story Keepers | Sydney Opera House

Had a quick walk around the opera house then home via a Woolworths for a sandwich and snacks for tea. Lovely first day!
